WhatsApp’s Rules Around Messaging
WhatsApp is built to protect users from spam. That’s why you can’t just upload a list of numbers and start messaging them. Every person you message must give you clear permission—this is called opt-in.
Opt-in simply means the user agrees to hear from you over WhatsApp. This can happen when:
- They submit a form and check a box that says “Contact me on WhatsApp”
- They message you first
- They tap a WhatsApp button on your website
If you don’t have proof of consent, and people start reporting or blocking your messages, WhatsApp will limit your reach or ban your number altogether.
